Despite growing calls to democratize philanthropy and elevate “community-based fundraising,” many nonprofits still focus on white supporters and overlook donors of color who would give more if asked. Research shows that white people make up roughly three quarters of American donors but only 60 percent of the country’s population.
Charities are missing out on a chance to attract more donors, but they are leaving dollars on the table, too: About 14 percent of millionaires are people of color, and that share will likely keep growing as the nation’s demographics continue to change.
How can your nonprofit attract, engage, and inspire supporters of diverse backgrounds to give?
Join us for a conversation with three experts who will explore why — and how — to focus on diversifying your nonprofit’s supporters. This session, the first in a series of three webinars on how nonprofits can diversify their pools of supporters, features a panel of African American experts. The head of a consulting firm, a major donor, and a nonprofit executive director — will share their experiences working with Latinx, Asian, and African American donors and share key steps to take to cultivate a wider variety of donors and grant makers, no matter your mission.
Learn why a diverse staff and board matters ― and how to create an organizational culture that advances DEI; how to identify and build trust with potential new donors of different races and ethnicities; and how to keep diverse supporters engaged in your work and giving especially during social distancing.
