About the Speakers: How to Set Goals and Measure Program Results
Elijah Goldberg
Chief Operating Officer
ImpactMatters
Elijah Goldberg is co-founder and chief operating officer of ImpactMatters, an organization that analyzes and estimates charities’ impact. The analysis the organization provides helps donors evaluate nonprofits and helps charities make sound decisions about programming and spending. Previously, Goldberg co-founded Walimu, a U.S. and Ugandan nonprofit that reduces preventable deaths in Ugandan hospitals by helping staff members identify barriers to quality care, create a plan to improve, and gather data to measure progress.
Kevin Starr
Managing Director
Mulago Foundation
Kevin Starr oversees the Mulago Foundation, which is focused on meeting the basic needs of the poor. He has worked in countries from Afghanistan to Zambia, trying to figure out what will effect change on a large scale. Starr created two Mulago fellowship programs that help entrepreneurs working on social issues maximize their impact; one focuses on combatting poverty, and the other on climate change and conservation. He teaches and mentors fellows in many programs and helped establish Big Bang Philanthropy, a group of donors who pool their money to support charities fighting poverty. Before working in philanthropy, Starr had a career in medicine.
